Terms of service

The commercial half of the agreement: plans, renewal, cancellation, refunds and the fair-use limits the managed plan is actually metered against. What happens to your audio and text is the privacy policy.

The agreement

These terms are the contract between you and Overtone Art LLC (“we”, “us”), the operator of Willy — this website, the Willy Dictation browser extension, and the Willy interview coach. Installing the extension, creating an account, or buying a plan means you accept them.

How we handle your audio, your text and your account is a separate document, the privacy policy, and it is not repeated or contradicted here. These terms cover the commercial side: what you get, what it costs, when it renews, and what happens when it stops.

What the service is

Willy Dictation converts speech into text in a browser text field, and can rewrite that text into an output style you pick. The Willy interview coach is a separate surface on this site that suggests answers during interview practice, grounded in facts you have confirmed about yourself.

Both produce machine-generated output. It can be wrong — a transcript can mishear a word, and a rewrite can change a meaning you did not intend to change. Read what is inserted before you send it. You remain the author of everything you send, and responsible for it.

Who can buy

You must be old enough to enter a contract where you live — 18 in most places, and at least the local age of majority everywhere. If you are buying for a company, you confirm you may bind it.

An account is personal. Sign-in uses your Google account, so keeping that account secure is what keeps your Willy subscription and your licence secure; tell us promptly if you believe someone else has access.

Plans, prices and renewal

The price you pay is the one shown on the Stripe checkout page at the moment you buy, in the currency shown there, plus any tax Stripe calculates for your location. Prices quoted elsewhere on this site are a description of that price and never override it.

We can change prices for the future. A change never applies to a purchase already made, and for a subscription it takes effect from the renewal after we tell you.

Cancelling

You can cancel the managed subscription at any time from the billing portal linked on your account page. There is no cancellation fee and no notice period.

Cancelling during the 7-day trial means you are never charged. Cancelling later stops the next renewal: managed access continues to the end of the month you have already paid for, and then stops. We do not pro-rate a partial month.

On-device dictation does not depend on a subscription, so it keeps working after you cancel.

Refunds, and what a refund does to a licence

Where the law where you live gives you a right to withdraw from or cancel a purchase — for example the statutory cooling-off period consumers have in the EU, the UK and elsewhere — that right applies and nothing here limits it. Outside those cases, ask us: write to the address at the bottom of this page.

A refund is not only a movement of money; because a Lifetime licence works offline, a refund has to withdraw it. So it is worth being explicit about exactly what our system does, in each case.

Fair use on the managed plan

The managed plan is metered, because our cost is per sentence you send. The published limit is 2,000 dictations or 500 audio minutes per calendar month, whichever you reach first. It is a fair-use ceiling sized well above normal use, not a target.

When you reach it, managed calls are refused for the rest of that calendar month and the extension tells you when the allowance resets, which is the start of the next calendar month. On-device dictation is unaffected and keeps working throughout.

We count dictations and audio seconds per account. That is a count and not a copy — no transcript, audio or text is kept as part of it. We may suspend an account that automates or resells access rather than dictating, or that tries to evade the limit.

Your licence to use Willy

We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable right to use Willy on the plan you are on. We keep all intellectual property in the software itself.

A Lifetime purchase issues a signed licence token bound to your account. It is yours to use on your own devices. Sharing, publishing or selling it is a breach of these terms, and so is trying to forge, patch around, or otherwise defeat licence checking or the usage limits.

If you bring your own AI key

On the bring-your-own-key and Lifetime tiers, your browser talks to Anthropic, OpenAI or Google directly using your key and your account with them. That is your contract with them: their terms govern the request, and their charges are yours to pay. We are not in the path, do not see the text, and cannot refund what a provider bills you.

The key is stored in your browser profile, which browsers do not encrypt, and the extension says so where you enter it. Treat it like any other credential on that machine.

What you may not do with it

Willy dictates what you say into a field you have focused. What you do with the text is yours, within the limits below.

Your content stays yours

You keep every right in what you dictate and what Willy produces from it. You grant us only the permission technically needed to run the feature you asked for — on the managed plan, to transmit one sentence to a model provider and hand you back the result. We claim no ownership, and we do not use your content to train models.

Changes to the service

The managed plan depends on model providers we do not control. We may change the models behind it, and features may be added, changed or withdrawn as the product develops.

If we discontinue a paid plan, or make a change that removes something material you paid for, we will tell registered account holders and refund the unused part of a subscription. We do not promise a particular uptime.

What we do not promise

Willy is provided as it is. We do not warrant that transcription or AI-generated text will be accurate, complete, or fit for a particular purpose, that the service will be uninterrupted or error-free, or that it will work with every website, browser or microphone. Nothing here excludes a warranty that the law where you live does not allow us to exclude.

Limits on liability

We are not liable for indirect or consequential loss — including lost profits, lost opportunities, or a job you did not get — arising from your use of Willy. Our total liability to you for any claim is limited to what you paid us in the twelve months before it arose.

This does not limit liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else the law does not permit us to limit. If you are a consumer, your statutory rights are unaffected.

Ending the agreement

You can stop at any time: cancel the subscription, uninstall the extension, or ask us to delete your account. We may suspend or end access if you materially breach these terms — including the acceptable-use section — or if payment fails, and we will say why unless we are legally prevented from doing so.

When the agreement ends, managed access and any licence we issued stop. What is stored in your browser is removed by uninstalling; account data is deleted on request, as the privacy policy describes.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms as the product changes. The date at the top is when they last changed. For a change that materially affects a plan you are paying for, we will tell account holders before it takes effect, and you can cancel if you do not accept it. Continuing to use Willy after that date means you accept the current version.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the law of North Carolina, United States, and disputes belong to the courts there. If you are a consumer resident elsewhere, this does not deprive you of the protection of the mandatory consumer law of the country you live in, or of your right to bring a claim in your local courts where that law gives you one.
